Writing Rules

Articles submitted to BURANA - Journal of Turcology Studies are requested to be written in accordance with the APA 7 citation system. Except for the rules below, it is recommended to refer to the official APA 7 website (https://apastyle.apa.org/).

To submit an article to the journal, first of all, you should pay attention to the Ethical Rules, and prepare the article according to Writing Rules APA 7 and the Article Template in the system. Within these rules, Ethics Statement Form, Copyright Form, Author Information Form, Plagiarism Report, and Ethics Committee Approval (if required) should be uploaded to the system.

A. In-text citations

  • Articles for publication in BURANA - Journal of Turcology Studies should be no more than 10.000 words.
  • If the articles submitted to the journal are written in Turkish and any of the other Turkic languages, the abstract in Turkish (200-250) should be given first; if the articles are written in English or Russian, the abstract in English should be given first.
  • An extended abstract (750-1000) should be written in English for articles written in Turkish, Turkic and Russian languages. However, it is not necessary to write an extended abstract for articles written in English.
  • Single-author citations should be arranged in the text as follows. E.g. (Gün, 2022, p. 1249)
  • If more than one source is cited, they must be listed in parentheses, from the oldest to the most recent, separated by a semicolon. E.g. (Oğuz, 1990; Elçin, 1997 and Ekici, 2004).
  • If the author has more than one publication published in the same year, their use in the text should be as follows. E.g. (Dundes, 1980a, p. 5) ... (Dundes, 1980b, p. 23)
  • In references with two authors, the surnames of both authors should be written. The conjunction "ve" should be used in Turkish references, and the conjunction "and" should be used in foreign language references. E.g. (Arslan and Köktürk, 1999, p. 17).
  • In references containing more than two authors, the abbreviation "etc." should be used after the first author's surname. E.g. (Hacıyeva etc., 1999, p. 82).
  • If the author's name is mentioned in a sentence in the text, the date and page number in parentheses are sufficient. E.g. according to (2000, p. 315) Çobanoglu or according to Çobanoglu ... (2000, p. 315).
  • Citations must be enclosed in quotation marks. Quotes of less than 40 words should be written in the text, and longer quotes should be written 1 cm from the right and left edge of the line, as a block, with 1.0 (single) line spacing and 11 pt. font.
  • The following method should be used in the use of in-text dictionary. E.g. (Türk Dil Kurumu, 2005, p. 1953)
  • The following method should be used in the use of online in-text dictionary. E.g. (Türk Dil Kurumu, n.d.i.) (no date of issue)
  • If a table is used in the text, “Table 1” (numbers should be given in order in the text) should be written in bold, and each word of the table title should be capitalized. Throughout the table, a font size is 11 points and 1.0 line spacing (single spacing) should be used. Quotations should follow the spelling rules of the journal, table lines should be horizontal only, and internal information should be in 11-point font.
  • If photos are used in the text, "Photo 1" should be written in bold (in the text the numbers go in order), the photo name in italics, and each word with a capital letter. Quotations should be formatted according to the Writing Rules of the journal.
  • If a figure is used in the text, "Figure 1" should be written in bold type (numbers in order in the text), the figure name in italics, and each word with a capital letter. Quotations should be formatted in accordance with the Writing Rules of the journal.
  • If oral sources are used in the text, the following method should be used. For example. ... (OS-1)

The journal also includes the promotion of qualified books in the field of Turkology Studies. Book reviews must be prepared according to a template and uploaded to the article tracking system. Book reviews are published with the final decision of the editor-in-chief and relevant field editors.
